On Sunday 24th March, ΕΚΟ, proud sponsor of our national teams, successfully hosted a special event to honour Cyprus’ National Football Team. The event took place in a specially-decorated room at GSP and, immediately after, guests watched our national team play their Belgian counterparts.
The evening’s highlights undoubtedly included the presence of and presenting of awards to beloved veteran football players who took part in the victorious match against Spain in 1998, and especially to veteran international Mr. Panicos Efthimiades who has been an EKO service station owner for over 50 years.
“Naturally talented, a great player and athlete who served football with passion and love, just as he has served ownership of his service station for over 50 years”, said Mr George Gregoras, Managing Director of Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus. “P. Efthimiades was named the championship’s top scorer three times, as well as being a great contributor to our national team. Of course, his successes were not just limited to football as he received many awards throughout his career as an EKO service station owner”, he continued.
Mr Efthimiades noted that “Football and the service station have been my life. Even now, at 75 years old, I play football, I exercise daily and I work at the service station.”
Event attendees included friends, service station owners and associates, as well as EKO’s large corporate clients and media representatives. Addresses were given by Mr G. Gregoras Managing Director of Hellenic Petroleum Cyprus, and Mr A. Stratis, Senior Sales & Marketing and Network Development Manager.
The organizers and guests then watched the match together.
Aside from supporting Cypriot football, this sponsorship enables EKO to once again actively demonstrate its faith in the principles of our national teams which after all mirror with EKO’s corporate values: team unity and enhancement, healthy competition and the continuous efforts to achieve excellence.
