With the participation of the Minister of Energy and representatives of the European energy sector
EKO, a member of the HELLENiQ ENERGY Group, successfully hosted the FuelsEurope Joint IMC/NFIA Meeting, which took place on 17–18 November 2025 in Nicosia, Cyprus. The two-day event brought together senior executives from 17 member companies of the European Fuel Manufacturing Association and 7 national associations of the sector, as well as officials from EU Member States. to discuss policy and legislative developments in energy & climate, transport.
The event was held shortly before Cyprus assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, beginning on 1 January 2026, and forms part of Fuels Europe’s tradition of holding its committee meetings (Joint IMC/NFIA) in the country about to take over the rotating Presidency. Discussions focused on Europe’s priorities for energy and climate policy, the transition to cleaner forms of energy, and the competitiveness of the sector.
EKO, in collaboration with FuelsEurope, took on the responsibility of hosting the two-day meeting, organizing key institutional sessions and an official dinner aimed at exchanging views on the energy transition and Europe’s role in shaping a sustainable energy future.
On Tuesday 18 November, the second day of the event, the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry Mr. George Papanastasiou attended and participated in a discussion with representatives of the European fuels industry, presenting Cyprus’ priorities for the energy transition and outlining the country’s initiatives to enhance energy security and competitiveness.
The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry noted:“This gathering comes at a particularly meaningful moment, as Cyprus prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1st, 2026. The upcoming Presidency provides both an opportunity and a responsibility: an opportunity to help shape Europe’s energy agenda, and a responsibility to ensure that our sector continues to contribute to a resilient, sustainable, and competitive Europe. These considerations will no doubt guide and enrich our discussions over the next two days”.
EKO was represented by its CEO, Mr. Giorgos Gregoras, who stated: “Cyprus today stands as a bridge between Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, a hub where perspectives converge and cooperation takes shape. The energy transition cannot be achieved in isolation. It demands collective commitment, inclusion, expertise, and trust.”
Ms. Liana Gouta, Director General of FuelsEurope and Mr. Diomides Stamoulis, Senior Director Strategic Planning of Industrial Activities & Participations at HELLENiQ ENERGY Group, actively contributed to the dialogue on how the fuels sector can support the green transition while ensuring a balance between decarbonisation, energy security, and affordability.
