EKO sponsors the 5th Energy Symposium in Cyprus

ΕΚΟ supported with its sponsorship the 5th Energy Symposium with the title “Cyprus: the new energy gate of Europe”, which was held with great success at a hotel in Nicosia, on Wednesday, 1st of November.

The Symposium was addressed by President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, House President, Mr. Demetris Syllouris, Ministers of Energy and Agriculture, Mr. Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and Mr. Nicos Kouyialis respectively, Greek Minister of Energy and the Environment, Mr. Giorgos Stathakis, representatives of public and private energy bodies, as well as academics.

In the light of significant developments in the energy planning of Cyprus, the 5th Energy Symposium was particularly important, since its aim is to inform the public on the latest developments in the field of energy, promote energy plans of Cyprus and exploit natural gas reserves. Natural gas, oil, electricity, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency were at the heart of the Symposium’s agenda.

In his speech, President Anastasiades expressed the hope that the results of the new phase of exploration drilling in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cyprus scheduled to take place in 2018 will secure the position of the Republic of Cyprus as a major player on the energy stage in the East Mediterranean and the EU. «A fundamental pillar of our strategy, consistent with the topics of this year’s Symposium, is the transformation of our country into a New Energy Gate of Europe”, he said.

ΕΚΟ supported in practice this year’s Symposium, which opens new two-way communication channels between the government, academics, technocrats and the public opinion in general.
