Match for Life: ΕΚΟ supports Karaiskakio Foundation’s work with life-saving actions

EKO, a subsidiary of HELLENiQ ENERGY, continues its longstanding collaboration with the Karaiskakio Foundation and further strengthens the “Match for Life” campaign, providing meaningful support to the enhancement of Cyprus’s Bone Marrow Volunteer Donor Registry.

As part of its contribution this year, EKO actively supports the process of identifying new donors, a critical stage that enables the discovery of potential matches for patients in need of a life-saving transplant.

With the central message “What if you are the one in 100?”, the campaign carried out in 2024 demonstrated that awareness and collective mobilization can translate into life-saving action:

• 2,160 new samples were identified
• 700 new donors were registered in the Karaiskakio Foundation’s Registry
• 20 sampling events were carried out at EKO service stations nationwide
• Dozens of informational and promotional actions were implemented
• And most importantly: one compatible donor was identified, offering a young boy a chance at life

The identification of a compatible donor is the tangible outcome of the coordinated efforts of EKO Cyprus employees, along with the dedicated volunteers from the Karaiskakio Foundation, who staffed the sampling points across the entire EKO service station network with commitment and passion.

The campaign reached more than 600,000 citizens through live radio broadcasts, informational seminars, in-station activities, and the moving participation of well-known public figures who publicly embraced the initiative. According to the Karaiskakio Foundation, every 100 new donors increase the likelihood of finding one compatible life-saving match. Cyprus’s Registry, with more than 200,000 registered donors, remains the largest worldwide in proportion to population.

The CEO of EKO Cyprus, Mr. George Gregoras, stated: “Our collaboration with the Karaiskakio Foundation is both a duty and an honour for us. The figures confirm that every sample represents a possibility for life, and we are proud that a young child received this precious gift. We call on society to continue participating, because hope lies within each and every one of us.”

On behalf of the Foundation, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Dimitris Andreopoulos, thanked EKO and HELLENiQ ENERGY for their support and trust, emphasizing that such partnerships ensure the continuity of the Foundation’s mission and the meaningful support of patients and their families.

The “Match for Life” initiative continues, bringing together entrepreneurship and social solidarity, with the aim of a future where offering life becomes a choice for all.
