The President of the Hellenic Republic is visiting the facilities of EKO Cyprus
The president of the Republic of Cyprus Mr.
Nikos Anastasiades, made his first official visit to the new state-of-the-art EKO Cyprus fuel storage and handling terminal at
Vasiliko.
EKO Cyprus, member of HELLENiQ ENERGY
are pioneering leaders, remaining committed to
the transition of their facilities away from Larnaca, by developing a
state-of-the-art EKO Cyprus fuel storage and handling terminal at
Vasiliko in just 18 months, while following the most stringent and latest
standards in construction and safety. The total investment was approximately
€30,000,000 for a project that makes a decisive contribution to the energy
sector in Cyprus.
With the new facility, synergies are being utilized as much as possible
for the benefit of the Cypriot consumer and society on the island as a whole.
Apart from the high operations standards, the one thing that
differentiates the EKO Cyprus fuel storage and handling terminal at
Vasiliko is its energy autonomy. EKO Cyprus, by investing in solar energy, will place a photovoltaic system, which together with energy storage systems,
will be able to cover
approximately 90% of the current electricity usage of the facility at Vasiliko,
making it one of the few energy autonomous facilities in Europe of this
magnitude.
Mr George Gregoras, CEO EKO Cyprus, in his statement, said, “Very
soon, this installation will be the first in Europe to be energy independent as
it combines a photovoltaic system and batteries that store energy, ensuring a
reduction of dependency on the nation’s electricity of up to 90%, reducing our
energy footprint”.
